Parables: The Lost Son
‘The Lost (or Prodigal) Son’ is a very famous parable. It is the last of three parables Jesus tells about ‘lost’ things – first a sheep, then a coin, then finally a child. In the parable, the father represents God. The son represents the people on earth who have lived in a way that ignores God’s wishes. The Bible calls them ‘sinners’ – people who have done wrong things.
Think for yourself:
- How would you have treated the son?
- What is God like, according to this parable?
- How does this compare to other views of what God is like?
