Does God exist? If He does exist, what is He like? And is it possible to find Him, meet Him, talk to Him? Is He talking to us already? How?
These are big questions which people have been asking for millennia and draw different conclusions. Christians would say, yes, He does exist. He is good and He loves us. It is possible to know and meet God – although it would be impossible to know Him fully. But there are things that we can do that help us to encounter and experience God.
For example, we can pray. Prayer is speaking to God, but also allowing time to listen to Him. We can worship God – for example through singing songs together that express how special He is, or speaking words of liturgy. We can take time to read the Bible, which Christians believe was inspired by God, and reflect on what it teaches us about God and His plans for the world. Or we can go on a pilgrimage – a journey to a sacred place which holds special meaning within the faith.
These are all expressions of Christian spirituality – the pursuit of something or (in Christianity) Someone beyond ourselves and the material world around us. In this section, you will find articles on the different ways Christians seek to connect with God, whether together in church, at home with family, or through special acts or events. Perhaps you might start by finding out what communion is, and what it symbolises?
