Significant People

Is there anyone who inspires you? Over the centuries there have been many Christians who are remembered because they have made a significant difference through their life and work to help others. They are often motivated to start projects, travel, endure hardship, even risk imprisonment to help improve the lives of others. There are many Christians such as Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King and Billy Graham who are well known today because of the lives they have led and the hope they have offered to people.

Finding out more about significant Christians can help inspire and encourage others to follow their example: to not be afraid to stand against injustice, to help those in poverty, to provide aid to those who need it and even change laws to make sure that people have equal rights. In this section you can find out more about the work of some Christians throughout history, what motivated them to do what they did and the impact it has made on people’s lives today.

Of course, there are many significant Christians whose lives and works aren’t widely known, those who have founded hospitals, built churches, started schools and charities in their communities. Today many Christians undertake voluntary work in their communities running youth clubs, social groups, supporting the homeless, running food banks, etc., seeking to make a significant difference to people’s lives – even if they aren’t officially recognised. To find out more about these, please browse our articles in our ‘Organisations’ section.
