Jesus went to Jericho. There was a chief tax collector there named Zacchaeus, who was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was so short that he could not see him because of the crowd.

One day Jesus and his friends went to visit the town of Jericho. A very rich tax collector called Zacchaeus lived in the town.

Zacchaeus really wanted to see Jesus, but he was such a little man and there were so many people that he couldn't see a thing.
Zacchaeus' good idea
Zacchaeus knew what he had to do. As quick as a flash Zacchaeus ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree so that he could see Jesus walk by.

When Jesus came to the tree, he looked up and said to Zacchaeus, “Hurry down, Zacchaeus, because I want to stay in your house today.”
A special Guest
Zacchaeus hurried down the tree and welcomed Jesus with great joy.But all the people who saw it started grumbling, “Why has Jesus gone to the house of a cheat and a liar?” Zacchaeus stood up and said to Jesus, “Listen, sir! I will give half my belongings to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times as much.”
A life filled with joy
Jesus said, 'This is a great day.' And from that day on Zacchaeus changed. He was no longer a cheat and a liar. He gave a lot of his money away and he was no longer miserable but was filled with joy.
