How could you help poverty by 'sending a cow?'

Send a Cow’s main vision is to give communities and families in  Africa the hope and the ability to be able to produce plenty of food.  The organisation works hand in hand with poor families teaching  them the skills they need to build new lives free from poverty and  hunger. As part of this they provide training, livestock, seeds and support.

The story does not stop there. In turn, the families who have received the help then pass on young livestock, seeds or training to others. A process that than continues that helps large numbers of families and communities. This ‘Pass it On’ principle not only builds stronger communities, it allows the organisation to help even more people to develop skills, confidence and self-respect.

Send a Cow does not to offer a quick fix solution to poverty and rural development. Instead the organisation is in it for the long haul establishing long-term sustainable solutions to the issues of poverty and hunger. Typically the organisation works with groups of farmers for five years. As well as training in animal wellbeing, organic farming and natural resource management, their work also includes teaching on equality, conflict resolution and healthy living. This balance of practical farming skills with social, life skills means that people are happier and healthier, children are educated, wealth is created and communities live in peace.
