A space for resources to help RE teachers and their students explore the Christian faith

In this section we have compiled additional resources to equip you with engaging activities and help you in supporting your students relevantly.

Touring Team: The Sense

A dynamic learning experience for your students!

The Youth for Christ Touring Team is a collective of enthusiastic young leaders that are passionately committed to working in partnership with education providers and the local church. They seek to enable young people to grow in confidence and self-esteem, as well as in their knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith.

The team consists of a touring band – The Sense – which is able to deliver lessons and assemblies which are presented from a Christian viewpoint but are sensitive to those of all faiths or none.

“Serving in schools is one of our main remits. We recognise the importance of young people having the best start in life. While education authorities are becoming limited by budget restrictions, we want to help serve the young people and staff in schools as they seek to create a holistic learning environment. Our goal is to enable students to discover more about our experiences and how our faith has impacted our lives, whilst serving in a practical and professional manner.” Joy Clark, Team Leader

Our team aims to deliver an engaging and educational experience, while hopefully dispelling preconceived ideas that Christianity is irrelevant and outdated.

Travelling throughout the UK, Youth For Christ’s touring team is available to come to your school for either a day or a full week of structured lessons and assemblies, alongside more informal programmes. For example, they can engage in lunchtime clubs. They all receive a high level of training from Youth for Christ and external organisations. Each member is fully DBS checked.

“Musically, the group has never been less than outstanding. When staff and pupils agree on this, then it must be true! However, to hold pupils’ attention for 50 minutes, particularly when there were 60 pupils in at a time, AND keep up the pace throughout the day was inspiring to see.” Andrew Sutcliffe, Head of Music, Millburn Academy, Inverness.

Schools often see the benefit of using The Sense in lessons and assemblies to enhance the SMSC aspects of their school curriculum, alongside the musical development of pupils.

The band is passionate about spending time with young people, listening to their stories, and helping them understand more about what it means to be a Christian in today’s world. They are all committed to giving young people positive role models. They deliver a range of sessions including RE/RME, PSE, and Music lessons, with any combination to enable cross-curricular activity.

With an emphasis on live music performances of their own original songs, The Sense delivers multi-media lessons that engage people across all year groups using a range of teaching methods. They actively encourage participation and involvement. Lessons and assemblies also include large-screen video clips to heighten impact and relevance.

So that you get the most out of booking the team there are a few practical things to take into consideration. There is a large amount of technical equipment used in delivering the various presentations, so a large, ground floor location is essential. Other practical details are available on request.
