Grace

Spoken word video about Grace

As part of our UNDER_GROUND project, we have teamed up with Mr K to produce spoken word videos around 6 of the biggest topics taught in Religious Education. Mr K is an inspiring and engaging Spoken Word Artist and Headteacher of an Alternative Provision School.

Discussion Questions:

  • What was the last thing you received for nothing?
  • How would you define Grace?
  • Why do Christians believe God shows us Grace?

In the video Mr K says: “I can’t earn your (God’s) favour and can’t earn heaven”.

  • What does he mean by this? How does this differ to other religions you have studied?
  • What do Christians believe you have to do to go to heaven?

In Christianity, the word grace means the love and kindness that God gives to all humans, even though they don’t deserve it. That Jesus paid for the sins of all humanity through his death and resurrection, meaning that people can have a relationship with God and spend eternity with God after they die. Christians believe that this grace is freely given, that a person just needs to believe in Jesus to receive this.

Key Bible Verses:

"That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:10 (NIV)

“For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can boast about it.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

“God puts people right through their faith in Jesus Christ. God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all: everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence. But by the free gift of God’s grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free.” Romans 3:22-24 (GNT)
