How do Prayers Lead to Belief in God?

Ways in which prayers can lead to a belief in God include:man looking up outdoor

  • When people have prayed for something, and God answers them, this makes them feel that God exists.
  • God shows how much he cares for people by how he answers prayers. This convinces some people that God must be real.
  • When they pray, some feel they can understand God's purpose for their life, which leads to a deeper faith.
  • When people pray, they feel much closer to God. Some people feel his presence, which can also lead to belief in a God.

The Bible makes it clear that when people pray God listens and acts. There are many examples of this happening to different characters, including Moses, Abraham, Noah and, of course, the disciples. Christians look to these stories to help improve their understanding of how God works.

In 1 John, Christians find confirmation that God is listening to them and they will receive everything they need if it is according to God's will. Christians can talk to God about anything, however, he may not answer in the way they expect, as it is only if God wants them to have something they will receive it.

'I am writing this to you so that you may know that you have eternal life—you that believe in the Son of God. We have courage in God's presence, because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will. He hears us whenever we ask him; and since we know this is true, we know also that he gives us what we ask from him.' 1 John 5:13–15

Regardless of whether or not they get what they ask for, many people still believe in God because of prayer.
