Stewardship

What do Christians believe about caring for the environment?

Why is it important to look after the environment?

How does a view in a creator God affect how some Christians respond to environmental issues?

Christians believe that God created the world and that He created the environment in which we live. God cares for the world, in fact, one of the first instructions He gave to humankind was to look after the land. So, Christians believe it is their responsibility to care for the earth. This is called stewardship; looking after the world to pass on to the next generation.

In these videos, Christians share their perspective on stewardship. Among these is Ruth Valerio is the Global Advocacy and Influencing Director for Tearfund who carries a vision to inspire and equip Christians to a whole-life response to poverty.

Professor John Spicer is a marine biologist who works at Plymouth University. He has dedicated his life to understanding the effects of climate change on marine organisms.

Marigold Bentley was formerly the Head of Peace Programmes and Faith Relations for Quakers in 2021. Marigold continues to be active in the peace movement and advocacy of the environment.
