Charity: Traidcraft

How does Traidcraft help the poorest of people?

Resources - RE:questTraidcraft aims to fight poverty through trade, helping people in developing countries to transform their lives. The organisation was established in 1979 as a Christian response to poverty, and it is the UK's leading fair trade organisation. Traidcraft run development programmes in some of the poorest countries in the world, and campaign in the UK and internationally to bring about trade justice.

Traidcraft was instrumental in setting up the Fairtrade Foundation which awards the Fairtrade Mark to products that meet internationally recognised standards. Traidcraft puts fair trade into practice by:

  • Enabling farmers and manufacturers in the developing world to benefit directly from trade by paying a fair price for the goods that are produced. The organisation works to create long-term relationships and business opportunities and provides training and support to the people they work alongside.
  • Supplying the widest range of fair trade products in the UK.
  • Giving UK customers a choice and enabling them to use their buying power to send a message to businesses and the government.
  • Challenging business behaviour. Traidcraft put in place good practices and demonstrate that it is possible to run a successful business on fair and ethical principles.
