Saint Peter

What do we know about Jesus' disciple?

When Saint Peter was alive, he was simply known as Peter, a follower of Jesus. Not only was he one of the original 12 disciples from the Bible, he was also one of his closest friends. However, he sometimes got it wrong. Jesus showed him that even though Peter might make mistakes, Jesus still loved him.

He went on to set up many of the early churches. In fact, Roman Catholics regard Peter as the first Bishop of Rome, or as the role is more commonly known, the Pope. The most famous church in the Catholic Church is named after him: St Peter's. It is in Rome, within the Vatican City, a state ruled by the Pope.
