The term redemption has several meanings but in Christianity, it refers to being saved from sin and evil. Christians believe that through Jesus' death on the cross people can be restored to a full relationship with God and are delivered from sin.

Furthermore, because Jesus died for their sins, people aren't punished for them: Jesus paid the price by taking the punishment in their place.

So, redemption is an important part of salvation, which, of course, is central to the Christian faith: it's the reason Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected. All a person has to do to receive salvation is to recognise their sins, repent and salvation is theirs for the taking.
