Grace

What do Christians believe about earning God's approval?

Christians believe in an all-powerful God who created the world and provides for people. He is also described in the Bible as a judge who will one day bring ultimate justice to the world and everyone in it. So this begs the question: how do you ensure you find yourself on the 'right side' of God, in his favour?

The New Testament - in particular the writings of St Paul - tackles this question. According to Christian belief, there is no way of earning God's favour or friendship. Instead, it is a gift, freely given by God, and paid for by Jesus' death on the cross.

This concept is called 'grace'. In this film, one Christian unpacks the concept of grace and explains the difference it makes to how she understands God.

To explore where God's grace fits into the bigger picture of God and His salvation plan, read our modern parable 'The Village'.
